Anyone Using as a Mini PC?
Anyone Using as a Mini PC?
I haven't opened up this PoS since the first month I got it but have been considering building a small emulation PC but then remembered I had this. Is anyone using their dreamcade as just a mini PC and using launchbox or anything other than the crappy dreamcade software?

Re: Anyone Using as a Mini PC?
Wheatpasta has used Launchbox on the Replay. Only downside is Bigbox requires more juice for it. I have used Retroarch and Attractmode myself. Both work great. I did put out a simple "DIY" to change out the current emulators and completely run on Retroarch with out any changes to other features. My only complaint is the loading time from cold boot. If your one of those users who has large sets of roms. You will be waiting patiently. I did a quick script to run Attractmode in the Dreamcade FE. So, for now it's my go to secondary FE.

I use LaunchBox with RetroArch on mine. If you want to run PS1 games use the PSX-Rearmed core. The others run slow or buggy on the Replay.
If you are having a software problem be it front end, Windows, or want to try RetroArch and LauchBox but need help feel free to contact me. Post on the forum, PM here, or on Discord. I will be more then happy to do my best to get you sorted.

Go for the latest Attract Mode. Works great, much better than Big Box. Search for the Motion Blue for PC release if you want a portable, plug and play Attract Mode install.

works with bluestacks to emulate android. good enough to watch hd content. nothing above 1080p though. Slightly slow but for less demanding uses is ok. sure wish the product worked as intended though. Never buying from dreamcades again. Word spreads quick too.

I loaded CoinOPS Pinball - Standalone file from ArcadePunks. It runs really well so I plan on making a miniature pinball machine with it.

I wish I had a DVD with an image I could use to restore this device to the original state because doing a new install means there is no going back (unless I do a full image backup). However, at this point I’ll probably reformat this device and build a new system from scratch instead of building a RetroPie system like I have done for my other systems.

Do you still have the original folders that it shipped with? If you copy most of them to another drive or USB stick you can move them back later.
This video will show you what folders to back up so that you can hang on to the original front end if you'd like.
